Women Community Store

On 27 September 2019, four women in Panga village (close to Kirtipur in Kathmandu Valley) opened their new community store. Their aim: to promote their store as the local market for all women entrepreneurs to sell their products. Menuka Maharjan, Bina Maharjan, Madhunanai Maharjan and Sushila Maharjan are the four local women who initiated the business. They have rented a small space at the ground floor of the house nearby the market and started the shop.

Each of the women contributed to the starting capital of the store, with a loan from the local women cooperative. The work was supported by Nepalese Non-Profit Organization Jhigu Mitra, with funding support from Jhigu Palaa and its US partner organization Mitra Path. Jhigu Mitra supported each of the four women with a grant of Rs 25,000.
