In many rural communities across Nepal, small-scale micro-enterprises offer families a path toward long-term financial stability. In Belkotgadhi, Nuwakot, Pabitra Tamang sought to generate additional income for her family by launching her own home-based tailoring service.
To help turn her vision into reality, the Jhigu Palaa Society partnered with our Kathmandu-based partner organization, the Inner Wheel Club of Balaju, to identify local women who possessed the drive and skills to start small businesses but lacked the foundational equipment.
Through this partnership, Pabitra and four other determined women were selected to receive essential start-up support. Funded directly by Jhigu Palaa’s 100% volunteer-backed contributions, all five candidates were equipped with brand-new, high-quality sewing machines.
Timeframe: Funded in 2023
Location: Belkotgadhi, Nuwakot & Kathmandu Valley, Nepal
Local Partner: Inner Wheel Club of Balaju
Direct Impact: 5 brand-new sewing machines provided to women tailors
Goal: Sustainable household income generation through local entrepreneurship
A single sewing machine represents far more than a tool—it is an engine for self-reliance. For Pabitra and the four other recipients, this direct equipment grant allows them to work locally, take on community garment orders, and earn a steady income to support their families' daily expenses and children’s education.
